The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Boost Struggling Action Game Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer notified employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a clearer direction.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now refining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to better meet community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

The news mirrors a similar move taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the entire text from Ismailer's communication:

Dear Team—

I know you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to mind and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its potential to our players.

The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To advance the incredible development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having spent the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to continue observing the development of the game in the weeks to ahead.

Game Details and Concept

"Challenge the opponents with new abilities, challenges, and tests that evolve every round. Will you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Or go big, put it on the line, and pray your team can earn top ranking? The choice is yours."

Project Ethos lacks an confirmed release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can look forward to additional details as production progresses.
